Chapter 5
Episode 4: The Truth Unveiled
As the city guards, now unsure of where their loyalties should lie, struggled to maintain order, we retreated to a secret chamber within the palace itself. There, Captain Adeola revealed the full extent of the conspiracy.
“The real prince was spirited away as a child,” she explained, her eyes reflecting years of vigilance and sacrifice. “This impostor was put in his place, part of a plot by neighboring kingdoms to control our resources. I’ve spent years protecting the true heir, waiting for the right moment to restore him to the throne.”
I sat in stunned silence, trying to process it all. “But why reveal yourself now? Why not earlier?”
Captain Adeola’s gaze softened as she looked at me. “Because of you, Sade. Your discovery of the diamonds and your fight against corruption created the perfect distraction. It gave us the opening we needed to finally act.”
Adebayo leaned forward, his tactical mind already at work. “Where is the true prince now?”
A fierce determination blazed in Captain Adeola’s eyes. “Hidden, but close. We must move quickly to install him before the usurper’s allies can regroup. But be warned – Bidemi and others like her will stop at nothing to prevent this.”
I clenched my fists, thinking of my stepsister’s betrayal. “Let them try. We’re ready for whatever they throw our way.”
