Chapter 5
Episode 2: The Fall
Our plan was simple, or so we thought. Gather evidence of the prince’s treachery and present it to the king. But in a nest of vipers, even the simplest tasks become deadly.
We crept through the palace’s secret passages, our hearts pounding in sync with our footsteps. The prince’s private chambers lay just ahead, promising the damning evidence we sought.
As we entered, a voice froze us in our tracks.
“I’ve been expecting you.”
The prince emerged from the shadows, a cruel smile playing on his lips. Behind him stood Bidemi, her eyes cold and triumphant.
“Did you really think you could outsmart me?” the prince sneered. “Bidemi here has been most informative about your… activities.”
Betrayal burned through me like acid. “Bidemi, how could you?”
She laughed, the sound brittle and harsh. “How could I not? The prince offered me everything I’ve ever wanted. Power, wealth, respect. What did you ever give me, sister dear?”
Guards poured into the room, surrounding us. I reached for the gun hidden at my waist, but Adebayo’s hand on my arm stopped me.
“Don’t,” he murmured. “It’s over.”
As the guards seized us, the prince approached, his eyes glittering with malice. “You’ve been quite the thorn in my side, Sade. But no more. Your meddling ends here.”
With a wave of his hand, we were dragged away. The last thing I saw was Bidemi’s smirking face as the doors slammed shut behind us.
