Episode 1: The Royal Intrigue
The capital city loomed before us, its towering spires and gleaming domes a stark contrast to the simple village life I’d known. As our cart rattled through the bustling streets, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being a fish out of water.
“Keep your head down,” Adebayo murmured, his eyes scanning the crowds. “We’re not out of danger yet.”
I pulled my hood lower, trying to quell the anxiety churning in my stomach. “Who exactly are we hiding from?”
Adebayo’s jaw tightened. “The Diamond Syndicate. A group of powerful nobles who’ve controlled the kingdom’s gem trade for generations. If they learn of the deposit on your land…”
He didn’t need to finish the thought. I’d already seen firsthand how far people would go for wealth.
We arrived at a nondescript building on the outskirts of the palace district. Adebayo ushered me inside, his hand on the small of my back, guiding me through a maze of corridors.
Finally, we entered a lavishly decorated room. A man stood by the window, his back to us. When he turned, I nearly gasped. The royal crest adorned his tunic.
“Your Highness,” Adebayo bowed deeply. “I’ve brought her.”
The prince – for that’s who he must be – studied me with piercing eyes. “So, this is the girl who’s caused such a stir. Tell me, Sade, do you understand the gravity of your discovery?”
I straightened my spine, meeting his gaze. “I’m beginning to, Your Highness.”
He nodded, seemingly satisfied. “Good. Because what happens next will determine the fate of our kingdom.”
As the prince laid out his plan, my head spun. A secret mission. A race against time. And at the center of it all, a girl from a small village who’d stumbled upon a fortune in diamonds.
“Are you with us, Sade?” the prince asked, his voice cutting through my thoughts.
I took a deep breath, knowing my answer would change everything. “I am.”
